My Submission By Qing It has been a year since I came to know Jesus Christ. My experience with the Lord originated from a romance, which drew me to learn about Christ and the Bible. I am□ a rational person.□ I didn’t believe in God incarnated when a girl talked to me about Jesus Christ. However, I decided to give God a chance and learn who Jesus Christ is before I completely commit myself to atheism. I began to read the Bible and Christian publications. I also went to a church near my home. □
An arrogant me□
When I walked in, people looked at me in amazement because the majority of the people in the congregation were elderly.□ I continued to attend there for half a year but nothing changed. The church was located across from one of the largest hospitals in my city, so many members of the congregation were patients of that hospital. This fueled my doubt about God as I became convinced that Christianity is an illusion for the weak and the sick.□
As obstinate as I was, I didn’t think I had any sin.□ I certainly wasn’t the sinner that Jesus Christ alluded to in the Bible. Then came the time when I got the visa to come to the United States. I didn’t feel that I owed God anything for granting me the visa. I assured myself it was my own wisdom and performance that convinced the visa officer, coupled with a little luck. Although I prayed to Him, I didn’t feel that God noticed me.
Love motivates me□
After I came to the United States, things went on as usual. What motivated me to come to church was my girlfriend. I listened to many sermons and was touched from time to time, however I could not fully commit myself to God. Nonetheless, God did not give up on me. He used his words to touch me, called other people to witness for me, and most importantly, he gave me chances to believe in him. At one gathering of the Stanford Evangelical Fellowship, I was greatly touched by the speaker and raised my hand for the first time in my life. I still recalled the hymn we sang at the gathering, “Be Joyful Always”.□ The words of the song go like this, “The Lord is my strength and my stronghold. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, He is with you. He will not desert you.”□
He gave me opportunities□
Even better, God led me to know Him deeper and deeper. He gave me scores of opportunities to accept Him. I signed up for the Fall Evangelical Retreat. In the midst of brothers, sisters and gospel seekers, I was greatly enriched by their characters. What a joyful and peaceful life they have! The retreat lasted for three days and I felt it was the first time that I grew so close to God. The speaker gave great sermons on the pulpit. Both the sermons and the Q & A sessions helped me tremendously. Brothers and sisters prayed earnestly for the gospel seekers, hoping to lead them completely to God. For the first time, I bowed down my head to the heavenly Father in prayers. I confessed my pride and sins, and opened my heart to accept Him as my personal Savior.□ I hope those who are still in doubt will be touched by Him and accept His salvation just like me.□
